She said someone was keeping you weak.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man slowly turned toward the woman sitting beside his wheelchair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His wife\u2019s face had gone pale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The boy continued, his own eyes shining now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShe tried to warn you. Then she disappeared.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man\u2019s voice broke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat was her name?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The boy swallowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnna.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The wine glass slipped from the man\u2019s hand and shattered on the rooftop floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because Anna was the nurse he was told had stolen from him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anna was the woman he once loved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the boy standing beside his wheelchair had his eyes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The rooftop went silent.
