“I wanted to apologize,” I said. “For what happened earlier. You were right. I shouldn’t have made such a big deal out of it.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I knew you’d calm down,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“And,” I added, lifting the box, “I’ve brought you a little gift. To smooth things over.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Is that all?” she said. “She’s tiny.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Whatever you want,” he said and closed the door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The landlord just called me!” she shouted. “He says I have to be out by the end of the week! He says he’ll call the police if I throw anything else on his property! Has he tried to get rid of me?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
