Nobody knows what hardships Goldie endured before she was found on the streets of South Carolina and brought to a local underfunded shelter.

Goldie froze at the entrance of the shelter, feeling deeply sad and confused. 

The staff member caressed her, trying to comfort her and make her feel better, but Goldie showed no reaction.

The beautiful Labrador was placed in her kennel and she sat on her torn bed. She bent her head and kept staring at the wall, feeling defeated and frightened.

Nobody claimed Goldie, who remained withdrawn into herself. Sadly, due to limited resources, the shelter began considering putting her on their euthanasia list.

Goldie’s Hero

A shelter volunteer who met Goldie felt devastated to see her condition and was determined to help her. 

They reached out to Hounds in Pounds, a rescue in New Jersey that saves dogs from euthanasia.

The volunteer sent them photos and videos of Goldie, asking them to pull the doggo from the shelter and help her mend her broken spirit.

She was also heartworm-positive and needed urgent treatment.

The rescue staff was brokenhearted after watching the video.

“When we saw the video of her staring at the wall, shaking, we knew we had to get her help,” a representative from Hounds In Pounds told The Dodo.

The rescue worked hard to find someone who could house Goldie once they pulled her from the shelter. Their network of rescuers found a local vet and connected them to the shelter volunteer.

The vet promised to take Goldie under their care for the time being.

Everyone was excited for the doggo.

The shelter staff went to pick Goldie up from her kennel. Once the pup walked out of the shelter, she still had a sad expression on her face. Goldie didn’t imagine that her life was about to change forever.

A New Beginning 

The sweet Labrador is now with the vet where she gets all the necessary care. The doggo has a new bed and she started decompressing.

Slowly but surely, Goldie is learning to trust humans again.

The pup started working with a trainer who convinced her to get up and walk around. She already feels more relaxed and she began coming out of her shell.

“She gets better each day. She is still shut down but starting to trust. She had her first session with a trainer who got her up and moving with ease, and today she was walking around the clinic with no convincing,” the representative added.

Once Goldie feels ready, she will be transferred to New Jersey and placed into a foster home. She will be one step closer to finding a family who will love her endlessly.

I have no doubt that Goldie’s heart will heal completely and she will find a forever home that she deserves.
